a mini album & a Tech Tip!

Hello friends!  Today, I have a tech tip and a mini album to share with you.  For my tech tip, I thought I would give you a few tips for fussy cutting.  I like to fussy cut stamped images, and pieces from pattern paper, like florals or in this case, the cute Pink Paislee Paige Evans birds.  They are perfect to use as embellishments.

Here are some of my fussy cutting tips:

  1. 1. Make sure your scissors are sharp, and get a pair of small scissors as well.  I got a pair of embroidery scissors a few years ago, and it is perfect for getting into small spaces!
  2. 2. Cut out the area around the object you want to cut for easier handling.
  3. 3. Move the paper, not the scissors.  I’m right handed, so I hold the scissors in my right hand.  Besides closing and opening the blades, I keep my right hand still.  My left hand is holding the paper and moving the paper around the blades.  This tip is a little hard to show or explain, but I hope you understood what I was trying to say.
  4. 4. You can fussy cut your images right up to the “line” or image, or you can leave a little border.  If you decide to cut with a border, try to keep the border as even as possible around your image for a cleaner look.
  5. 5. Try not to close the blades all the way.  I notice that when you close the blades all the way, it always tears the paper a tiny bit; when you’re cutting a really tiny image, it can be obvious.

Now, on to my mini album.  I take photos of my baby girl in a white onesie and a month sticker every month.  I thought it’d be fun to document that in a little mini album.  I only have up to month 7 so far, but I’ll add in the rest of the months when I’m done with the project at 12 months.  I think it’s so fun to see how much babies grow and change in their first year of life.  I cannot believe my baby girl is already 8 months old!

For my project, I used the July Smile More kit, and the July Laugh More add-on.  I cut up a few pattern papers into 3×4 pieces, and started embellishing with items from the kit.  I really love those Dear Lizzy roll tags.  Confession…I didn’t realize they were stickers, and just treated them as tags.  LOL!  That’s ok though, because I often like to have the tags hang off the side, or add stitching for a little dimension.  I loved the Pink Paislee Paige Evans bird pattern paper, and the pink floral paper by Crate Paper.  I also really love to repurpose the glassine bags, and incorporate them into my projects; I love the dimension and texture it adds.  Hopefully you can see a few of my fussy cut images in the mini!

By the way, this project would be perfect to use up some of your scraps and leftovers!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely day!
