Hello there lovelies!  Today we are looking at the second project from our Guest Designer, Allison Waken.  Before we get to her layout, let’s learn a little bit more about Allison.  I asked her to answer a few of the questions I am always curious about other designers.

1. When do you do your scrapbooking…do you set specific time aside or wait until you are feeling creative??

A little bit of both! Usually it’s just when I feel like being crafty but sometimes if I notice that I haven’t scrapped in a while I’ll set aside time (usually in the evening) to get some memories down.

2. Do you keep a Planner or Memory Keeper? Or both??

I keep both, but I’m more of a “sometimes” planner person and always memory keeping person.

3. Name 3 things you couldn’t craft without!!

Let’s see, I don’t think I’d like to sit down and craft without my stapler, scissors and some new patterned paper!

Here is Allison’s page using the January main kit, “Love Notes” and a few pieces of both the “Hot Stuff” and “True Love”  Add-Ons.  She also describes her creative process below.

“I have been loving my traveler’s notebook this last year. The portability just makes it so easy for me to get memories down quickly and/or on the go. For this little spread I printed 6 2″x2″ photos on 4″x6″ photo paper. I knew that by keeping so many photos in a compact size, that it would fit great in the notebook without being too crowded. I always lay out my photos and play a bit with embellishments before committing anything to adhesive. I wanted to use some of the cute embellishments from the kit so I kept the paper to a minimum so that it wouldn’t be too super thick in my album.”

“I love when embellishments come on clear backing because I just cut out the backing and can move them around on the spread without having to worry about sticking them down until I’m sure of where I want it! I kept finding strips of paper for the right side and was glad I didn’t adhere anything until the end. A quick title, date and note about what we were singing in our seats and the spread was finished!”

“I love simple, memorable moments like this in my traveler’s notebook. I carry it around with me often so it’s fun to pull out and show friends or family as an alternative to just using my phone. Sometimes it’s fun to flip through a physical book – even if you’re sitting at a restaurant!”

Allison’s take on memory keeping in general is an inspiration.  I think as scrapbookers, we crave a tactile, physical product in our hands and with technology today, the idea of pulling that our of your bag, instead of a phone in so appealing.  I love the convenience and unbelievable reach of social media as much as the next crafter, but I do love the feel of paper and embellishments!

Thank you so much Allison, for sharing a piece of yourself and your formula for reflection with us!  And thank you to our readers and subscribers for sharing your valuable time with us.  You can find Allison at the links listed below.  Have a great weekend!
