November Challenge: Non-Holiday Layout

Hello Scrapbook Circle friends! The Wonderland kit and add-ons have me in the holiday spirit. I can’t wait to document my December and record Christmas memories. But what if holiday scrapping and crafting are not your thing? What if it is, but you have leftover papers and embellishments? I’ve got a challenge for you that will help you stretch and use up every little bit of your kit. This month, the challenge is to use holiday-themed product to create a non-holiday layout. Here’s my take:

I knew when I snapped this photo at the beginning of this month that I wanted to tell the story of how Addie is fighting nap time, but if I get her bundled up nice and warm, a car drive will usually get her to sleep. Imagine my delight when I noticed that the colors of my sweater and her cute, wintery outfit matched the plaid paper in the kit!

I started by designing my title and cutting it out with my Silhouette Cameo. I backed the letters with various patterned papers and then tucked tabs and stickers into each letter. I traced around the letters and the edge of my layout with a black pen for some contrast. Sewing would be a good option, too.

I added the deer, girl, and tree stickers because, well, they’re cute. I think they say “winter” more than “holiday”, so I went with it! I popped the girl sticker up on foam adhesive for some added dimension.

So there you have it, a non-holiday page created with holiday-themed product! Ready to play along? Here’s how:

1. Create a non-holiday layout using holiday-themed product. The layout should be traditional or hybrid. This month’s Scrapbook Circle kit is perfect for this challenge, but any materials will do.

2. Post your layout to your blog, an online gallery, or social media site (be sure to tag Scrapbook Circle!). Comment on this post with a direct link to your layout.

3. For an extra entry, post your layout to our Facebook Community, Scrapbook Circle of Friends. Find the photo album titled “November Non-holiday Layout Challenge” and add your layout. Feel free to tag me – @Tessa Elzea Buys – so I’m sure not to miss it!

4. Link us to your entry by Sunday, December 11th, 9:00 pm PST. The randomly-selected winner of a $20.00 gift certificate to Scrapbook Circle will be posted on December 12th.

Good luck and happy scrapping!
