October Guest Designer – Christin Gronnslett
Happy Friday friends!! I am thrilled to have one of my personal favorite inspirations for our October Guest Designer! Christin used the new October kit, “The Weekender” to create this amazing layout for us to share… And now, let’s meet Chrsitin!
“Hello ! My name is Christin Grønnslett. I am 42 years old and I live in Norway with husband and two kids (9 and 7) . I have been scrapbooking since 2002, but it wasn’t until 2009 after my daughter was born that I started scrapbooking on a daily basis. I started out with very clean and simple style, I really wanted to use lots of flowers and lots of stuff on my layouts, but all those flowers that I bought just never made it to my pages…
I still use cardstock as my base and in a way I have stayed true to my style. Practice have made me bolder with color and I add more layers of paper and now also more layers of mixed media. Even though I am considered a mixed media scrapper I actually don’t like things getting too messy – that is my I NEVER use the spray on my mists. I am all about controlled mixed media and all though as you will see in my video I can’t always control the paint when I drop in onto my cardstock, there is not so much mess to clean up and I can keep my desk messy with lots of stuff instead.
My passion lies in 12×12 layouts and I love to find the color products to match and enhance the photos I want and the materials I have at hand. Another thing about my style is that you will almost never see me fill an entire page; I need my white space. Words that have been used to describe my style are: artsy, whimsical, fresh and colorful. I don’t consider myself an artist, I am just one of those girls who likes to play with both color products and paper. I don’t like doing art journaling – for me that has absolutely no purpose…”

Here is Christin’s stunning page and her description of her own process:
Christin also made a video of her process which you can find HERE!
“The inspiration for this layout is my picture. I wanted to move the lovely colors from my photo and add it to my background. I ended up with a mix of gold, pink and yellow and some extra blue tones.”
“I used a mix of Ecoline, Shimmerz Paints, different kinds of mist and Peerless paper. As you can see in the video it’s not very messy. I use a waterbrush to squeeze out water and paint and just paint it on my watercolor paper (If I had used ordinary cardstock I would have treated the cardstock with clear gesso first – you will get a very similar effect) I painted a little here and there, dried off excess paint, used a heat gun for the layer to dry and then I added more layers. If you want colors to really blend you leave it wet, but if you just want the color to just lay ontop of the previous layer the paint has to dry completely.”
“For my layers of paper I just put my background away I start working with the layers. I don’t measure much, I mostly just use my scissors and my guts and cut. Some pieces are smaller and some larger. When I am happy with the layers I staple them together. The reason why I staple the layers is that way I am free to add small pieces here and there in between the layers and that the layers are not so flat. If they are not flat the fact that my edges are not completely straight isn’t so visible.”
“I hope you enjoyed seeing my process for the making of this page! I have really enjoyed playing with the October 2016 kits.”
Christin does such an amazing job of creating a collage of colors, patterns, dimension and carefully crafting her stories around beautiful photographs. These photos make me anxious to try some mixed media on my own backgrounds. Christin will be sharing more with us later in the month, so make sure you come back!
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend.
