September Challenge: Sketch

I love a good sketch. It’s a great place to jump off when designing a layout. You can follow it precisely, use it as a guide, or you can even re-design it to suit your needs. I created a brand new sketch as our September challenge, and I hope you’ll give it a go!

september-sketch-finalHere’s my take on this basic grid with a central embellishment cluster:

shine-bright-beautiful-1-with-footerI love so many of the Pinkfresh Studio patterns (found as 12×12 sheets in the main kit and in an add-on in the 6×6 size) that I couldn’t choose just two for this page. Departing from the sketch just a little, I mounted each of my photos on a different patterned paper.

For the embellishment cluster in the center, I trimmed off the clip part of the wooden flower and adhered the flower directly to my corner photo. I added a few chipboard hearts and some enamel dots. Super simple.

For my title (inspired by the kit title!), I combined a We R Memory Keepers sticker, Freckled Fawn alphas, and another WRMK sticker. Because I wanted to include more journaling than I had room for going by the sketch, I decided to journal around the edge of my page.

Are you ready to play along with the sketch? I can’t wait to see what you make! Here’s how to join in:

1. Create a layout based on the above sketch. The layout should be traditional or hybrid. This month’s Scrapbook Circle kit is perfect for this challenge, but any materials will do.

2. Post your layout to your blog, an online gallery, or social media site (be sure to tag Scrapbook Circle!). Comment on this post with a direct link to your layout.

3. For an extra entry, post your layout to our Facebook Community, Scrapbook Circle of Friends. Find the photo album titled “September Sketch Challenge” and add your layout. Feel free to tag me – @Tessa Elzea Buys – so I’m sure not to miss it!

4. Link us to your entry by Sunday, October 9th, 9:00 pm PST. The randomly-selected winner of a $20.00 gift certificate to Scrapbook Circle will be posted on October 10th.

Good luck and happy scrapping!
