Tech Tip | Using Shaped Punches

Hello there! Today I’m sharing a tip on how to create a background using shaped punches! Punches are a great tool and they have so much versatility. Whenever I’m having a hard time combining patterns and colors, I break them down into smaller pieces so they seem less intimidating. So pull out your punches, and I’ll show you how I created this layout!

The first thing I would recommend is to pull out all the papers you want to use. I chose a hexagon punch for this layout, but nearly any shape would work. Next, get punching!!! I created a small pile of several different colors and patterns. Once you have your shapes, you’re ready to create your layout!

I like to start with a neutral background, and then I scatter the punches across the page. I place my photo, then move the punched shapes around until I’m happy with the result. Seriously, that’s it!! It turns out different each time, and I love the abstract look!

Some variations include: having more shapes on one end and decreasing them as they go across, making rows, using different sizes of the same shapes, placing the shapes at an angle (if possible), and more! There are so many possibilities! Thanks for joining me today, I hope you felt inspired to pull out your punches!
