July Challenge: On Deck
Hitting the pier, your backyard deck or the boardwalk this summer? Inspired by the wood plank patterned papers in the July kit, Today is the Day, the challenge this month is to create a layout featuring wood.
Thinking of the pier made me think of our recent trip to the beach. The gray, weathered wood patterned paper reminded me of the sand, so I enlarged a favorite photo from the trip to scrapbook:
I don’t have an oversized printer, so I had a local place print this photo as an 11×14. I trimmed off a bit from the top and bottom and adhered it to a 12×12 piece of cardstock. To hide the inch of bare cardstock, I added a strip of the wood patterned paper.
I kept embellishments to a minimum, but I was sure to use the Elle’s Studio wood embellishments. The stars and the sunny days phrase were perfect. Heidi Swapp stickers and Pretty Little Studio die-cuts finish it off.
I love how the wood elements add to the natural feel of the page.
Ready to play along? Here’s how!
1. Create a layout with wood elements (paper and/or embellishments). The layout should be traditional or hybrid. This month’s Scrapbook Circle kit is perfect for this challenge, but any materials will do.
2. Post your layout to your blog, an online gallery, or social media site (be sure to tag Scrapbook Circle!). Comment on this post with a direct link to your layout.
3. For an extra entry, post your layout to our new Facebook Community, Scrapbook Circle of Friends. Find the photo album titled “July Challenge – On Deck” and add your photo.
4. Link us to your entry by Sunday, August 14th, 9:00 pm PST. The randomly-selected winner of a $20.00 gift certificate to Scrapbook Circle will be posted on August 15th.
Good luck and happy scrapping!
