Trio of Gatefold Cards (& process tutorial)

Happy June crafty friends!!  Today, I am sharing 3 cards I made in a bit of an assembly line process, using the fresh June kit, ‘Now or Never!’  I used the same process for each card and a handful of the similar embellishments.

I started with three blank gatefold cards and three mini Distress Ink pads per card.  I chose these colors based on the colors from the Bella Blvd. Illustrated Faith embellishments that are part of the main kit.

This is one of my favorite techniques for adding quick color to a background or card base that looks great, without much work!  I added the ink to my craft mat starting with the darkest color as a strip and then adding lighter colors to each side symmetrically.  I misted the ink with water, fairly lightly in order to get some good droplets around the edges.

I unfolded each gatefold card all the way open and then pressed the front side into the ink, planning for the folded edges to be the darkest and working out to the lighter inks.  I repeated this process for each set of 3 Distress Ink pads and card bases.

This is what one of the card bases looked like after I inked it.  I let all the card bases air dry before I continued.

Below are all three of the card bases in the various color combinations I chose, as they were drying.

This is the same card after I added a few of the Bella Blvd. Illustrated Faith embellishments, a Jillbean Soup kraft tag and a couple enamel hearts from the same Bella Blvd. collection.

And finally, my favorite of the three, using the orange and pink Distress Inks.  I also used the most beautiful piece of sunset patterned paper, from Webster’s Pages that I tore into a small strip to add to the front of one side.

I used a larger enamel heart on the inside of this card and one of the Scrapbook Circle exclusive wood veneer word tiles on the front.

The new June kit is so beautiful and full of so many versatile pieces that can be defined into different groups.  I chose to create this trio of cards to give as an inspirational gift.  Check out the Design Teams projects over the next month and on the Scrapbook Circle of Friends Facebook Community.
