DT choice – Cutting your photos into shapes

I love cutting out my photos into shapes for my layouts. For this layout I decided to cut them out into triangles. I first printed out my photos in squares of 4×4 inches size. I created a template with throw away paper and laid the triangle on each of the photos and cut them out. Just keep one thing in mind when you want to cut out the photos into shapes …. when you are editing your photos, you need to have an idea where your subject is and how much of the photo is going to get cut off when you overlay the shape. I struggled with a couple of photos and had to change a few to make sure that my son’s hand or head does not get cut off.

I decided to use a white cardstock as my background as I wanted the acetate words from PinkFresh studio from the Be You embellishment kit to stand out. I added some color coordinating mist and drops of black to add more interest. I then glued the words with vellum adhesive and did some zig zag machine stitching so that they stay put.

Now it was time to add my photos. I had already made a layout with the pleasant summery colors in this kit. But this kit has a lot more to offer. So I wanted to bring that out on this layout with that black and white stripes paper from illustrated faith. It gave me the pop and interest that I was looking to add on this layout. So I used that as a mat for the photos. I placed the triangles in different ways on the layout but finally settled on what you see below. The placement of the photos this way¬†and the black is something that I don’t usually do but I love the way it turned out.

To finish off the layout, I wrote my journaling on strips of white cardstock(because after finishing most of my layout, it was better to be safe than sorry!) and added them near each of the words. I also added some of the wood veneer words which are scrapbook circle exclusives on top of each of the acetate words. Here are some close ups:

Do share your layout on the Scrapbook circle of friends facebook page. We would love to see them.
