Designer’s Choice: Using Holiday Products for Non-Themed pages

By Jennifer Larson

Hello! It’s Jennifer Larson. The kit this month is gorgeous, filled with lots of holiday papers to scrap the season. I particularly like holiday products that I can use for non-themed pages, and this month’s kit is DEFINITELY filled with flexible products. Here’s a non-seasonal page I made with this month’s kit:

The photos were from this past fall at a corn maze, which isn’t in the photos but was always in the back of my mind when I made this page. The bright blue of the tent and the stripes’ angle reminded me of this teal paper from Elle’s Studio–it’s not the same hue, but the angle and color are similar.

I set this blue on top of the wood grain from My Mind’s Eye to ground the page with hues reminiscent of the autumnal corn maze.

Next I looked for a contrast that still fit the page. The gold in the corn maze made me reach for the gold from this kit: the Maggie Holmes Crate Paper gold paper, the gold title and heart, and the gold twine. I trimmed the gold paper into a banner along with some other bits from the kit, added some dies from the Elle’s Studio bits in the add-on, and trimmed my journaling into strips (my favorite journaling technique) to lead the eye from the banner to the photos of my son covered in birds.

Even though the holiday products are gorgeous this month, don’t be afraid to spread your wings and fly out of the season to record non-seasonal memories. (Sorry for the bird joke–I couldn’t help it!) If you do, be sure to post your pages on the Scrapbook Circle Facebook page to share!
