Designer’s Choice: Holiday Quilt

Hi everyone!  It’s Gina here today and I’m so excited to share with you another layout that I made this month using the December ‘We are Made of Stories’ Kit.  I was inspired by the papers in the December kit, to create my background.  I absolutely love the Elle’s Studio Holiday quilt paper!  I knew right away when I saw it, that I wanted to use it to create my background.

To create my background,  I simply cut around four small diamond shapes to create a larger diamond shape.  I then, cut other papers from the kit the same size to match and then laid them down on white cardstock to create my background.  I love that the large diamond shapes grouped together looks like a holiday quilt.  I had a fun photo of my daughter with her friends ice-skating on a recent trip to Tahoe.  I trimmed my photo the same size as the other diamond shapes to help blend in to the background

Next, I used a sewing machine to stitch a few of the pieces and embellishments in place.  I used embellishments from the kit and added a few embellishments from the December Favorite Elf Add-on.

I hope you are inspired by my layout today.  If you create a project with one of our current kits, we would love to see it.  Be sure to share it with us on Facebook.

One Item Wonder: Pink Paislee Numbers

Between the silver metallic finish and the obvious application for a December countdown, the Pink Paislee numbers included in the We Are Made of Stories kit are a fabulous addition to your scrapping. But, these number stickers don’t have to be used for a December mini album or even a Christmas page. Check out what creative team member Mona did with her numbers:

Mona LO1

With a little math, she was able to calculate how many seconds of fun her page was documenting, then used that number in her title.

The silver finish complements the snowy photos perfectly.

How are you using these number stickers on your projects this month? We’d love to see! Be sure to upload your projects to our Facebook page so that we can come take a look.

Since this is my last post on the Scrapbook Circle blog in 2014, I’d like to wish you a very happy new year and say thank you for making these weekly posts so much fun this past year. Thanks for visiting today!

One Item Wonder – silver numbers

Hello everyone!

Today I want to show you my layout made using december kit – We are made of Stories, which You can buy here.

I focused on Pink Paislee silver numbers, and I used them as a title of my layout.  Actually, I wondered how to use them, but when I chose photos for my layout, I knew  these silver numbers can be used to count seconds, my boys spent on snow, sledding and having fun.

I hope you will find a fun usage for these numbers, maybe in mini album or PL / DD album.

Have a nice day and a Happy New Year!!!

Lifting You — Fiona

Today we are lifting subscriber Fiona’s layout. She shared this page with us on the Scrapbook Circle Facebook page.

When I saw this layout, I loved the long journaling and the way the title was tucked away within the text and also lower on the page. The photo strip with rounded corners is also so fun.

Fiona was lifted by creative team member Valerie.

Valerie was consistent in the layout for the photos on the page and also placed the title lower on the page like Fiona did. She kept the same top corner cluster and also incorporated the longer journaling.

Great job, ladies! What a great start to our week.

Designer’s Choice: Layering with Paint

Hiya! I have a quick and simple technique to share with you today.

I love patterns and pattered paper. It just might be my most favorite scrapbooking product (no, it definitely is…). But sometimes using all of that pattern on top of other patterns can be distracting and a bit crazy for your eye. 1412Dec-Potluck02
If that’s the case for your page, then do what I did.  And that is: add some white paint or gesso before you layer on the pattern. It helps tone everything down and really makes your layered patterns pop.1412Dec-Potluck03
This page was super simple and quick and easy to make. I painted a few areas and then let them dry. Then, using the same punch, I attacked the mini paper pad in the Favorite Elf add-on. I stitched them down in a row above and below where I knew my photo would go. Then I added the photo + the awesome glittery title + a few of the enamel stars.
The last bit I added was the journaling, and my page was done. In no time at all my page was done. It’s a very simple design, but with the addition of the gesso plus some foam dots, I think it has a lot of depth and texture.

Designer’s Choice | Christmas Joy

Hello everyone!  Jenni here today to share one of my layouts using the December ‘Made of Stories’ kit and the ‘Favorite Elf’ Add-on.

SBC_Christmas Joy_Dec 2014 border

This gold striped vellum from Crate Paper is my favorite piece of the December kit by far.  I didn’t want to take too much away from it so this was a very quick layout.  The diagonals in the vellum inspired me to divide the page in half at an angle.  I used the gold glitter phrase stickers for my title to help balance out the heaviness of the left side.

I heat embossed the exclusive December stamp onto vellum and trimmed it out for a little cluster left of the photo.  I used one of the 6×6 papers from the Add-on as a mat under my photo and then began layering on top of it with the tag, title and a doily.

Not Just for Christmas

The Scrapbook Circle December Kit We Are Made of Stories includes several fun Christmas-themed elements. I combined them with the Christmas-themed embellishments from the Favorite Elf ad on to make this layout documenting the shenanigans of our elf of the shelf last year.rk sc documented

The gold glitter and vellum paper here combine well with the Pink Paislee tag and silver number for a very festive look.

But, there are also plenty of non-holiday themed elements to this versatile kit and I was also able to create this everyday type of layout:

Here, the gold glitter and vellum do not look Christmasy at all!

One Item Wonder: Merry Christmas Banner Digi Cuts

You’ve seen the creative team play with the Merry Christmas Banner Digi Cuts all month long on their layouts, but Audrey has a fun take for these cut files that is perfect for your last-minute Christmas cards:

merry deer SBC

Audrey cut the “merry” banner very small, then used gold thread to stitch the letters to this darling card.

On this card, Audrey cut the “joy” out of striped patterned paper and used scissors to cut off the connecting pieces.

If you’ve got some kit scraps and this digi cut file, you’ve got some great Christmas cards to make! Thanks for the inspiration, Audrey! Have you used the digi cut file this month? We’d love to see how. Share with us on the Facebook page and we’ll come take a look. Thanks for visiting today!
