September Technique Challenge

Whether you use a needle and thread or a Singer, stitching and sewing on layouts is a technique that many scrapbookers use to create their pages. Sewing can be decorative or functional by securing layers and embellishments. It can be messy, clean, straight or zig-zaggy. Even embroidery and cross-stitch can inspire your page elements. Our September technique challenge is to use sewing or stitching in some way on a layout. Whether you are an expert paper seamstress or a first-timer, we hope you’ll join in. To get you started, we have some inspiration from creative team member, Jennifer:

In Stitches by Jennifer Larson

Jennifer LOVES to stitch on pages. Sewing was a perfect compliment to this layout about her son cross-stitching.

Not only does sewing play along with her theme nicely, but Jennifer says she enjoys using stitching for these reasons, too: “For texture. Here I picked a pattern on the page – the starburst – and stitched along it. To keep stuff down. I stitched down my journaling strips and title to anchor them better on the page. To embellish. I stitched around the photos and added some cross-stitches on the tags to embellish.”

Fabulous ideas, Jennifer! Ready to put those ideas into practice? Here’s how to play along with our challenge:

1. Create a layout that features sewing or stitching. We would love to see a Scrapbook Circle kit in action, but any materials will do.

2. Post your layout to your blog, ourĀ Facebook page, or an online gallery. Come back to this post and leave a direct link to your layout in the comments.

3. You have TWO WEEKS to play. Enter by Wednesday, October 1st, 9 pm Pacific to be eligible to win…

Good luck! Happy sewing and scrapping!
