Designer Take: Tessa’s Hot Stuff

Hello! Tessa here. Do you have the warm colors of the Hello There kit heating up your craft space? I did this week, and this layout is my take on our current challenge, Hot Stuff:

photo (1)

I used the Studio Calico patterned paper as my background, then several Basic Grey die-cuts as embellishments. I loved that the die-cuts included the color black so that my photo coordinated even better.

My favorite thing to work with from this kit has been the exclusive stamps. Those hashtags and the heart are just too cute! And the stamps are of fabulous quality, making them oh-so-easy to use.

Pinks, yellows, oranges and reds = one warm and fun layout! I can’t wait to see what you create for the challenge. See this post for the details on how to enter. You still have a week to show off your hot stuff. Good luck and happy scrapping!

Revisiting an old technique…

I have to admit I don’t use a lot of flowers on my layouts, especially 3 dimensional ones.  But the theme of my page was about a tea party, which of course brings to mind flowers, doilies, and everything frilly and fancy.  So I went back to my flower making technique arsenal and decided to do some accordion fold flowers.

tea time SBC

I simply cut strips of patterned paper and then punched one long edge with a punch.  Then I folded back and forth the create the pleats and secured with a big glue dot.  I topped each with another punched shape and a brad. I used patterned paper that had an ombre print on it, and I love how the pattern turned out once the flowers were folded.

I used a large doily on the background (from my stash) and a few punched circles of other patterns.  The title I cut with my Cameo using a font called The Lost Paintings.

How perfect is the tea cup sticker in the kit from Chickaniddy ! ?!!!

Why don’t you go back and think about a technique that you used to love but haven’t done in a while and try it on your next page!

One Item Wonder: Scrapbook Circle Exclusives

Have you played with our exclusive printable, cut files, tags or wood veneer this month? Erin Stewart, our guest designer for June, enjoyed working with these exclusive items designed specifically for the Hello There kit. Here is a beautiful page she created with the exclusive printable:

Other than the background patterned paper, Erin added all the pattern and color she needed with elements from the printable. And the result is gorgeous!

We would love to see what you are doing with the printable, and all the other exclusives in the Hello There kit. Be sure to upload your pages to the Facebook page and we’ll come take a look! Have a great day!

We are looking forward to another creative year here at Scrapbook Circle!

Lifting You — Chelsea

Today we are sharing our Lifting You feature. This is when one of the Creative Team members takes a layout that was shared on the Scrapbook Circle Facebook Page and lifts it.

This month’s lift is from subscriber Chelsea. We love her whimsical approach to this layout. The smaller cluster of pictures is fun to look at and the splatters of ink go really well with the egg-coloring theme for her page.

Chelsea was lifted by Jenni. Jenni loved that Chelsea’s layout used several small photos.  Her use of paint splatters lead your eye around the title and down to the photos. It is simple but powerful.

She took cues from Chelsea’s page by using the same number and arrangement of photos. Jenni also used one of the Heidi Swapp watercolor die cuts in the top left corner and splattered India ink around the clustered photos and embellishments.

Thanks, ladies! These pages are fun and colorful — just what we need to start off another week of creativity!

If you want to be considered for our Lifting You feature, share your work using Scrapbook Circle kits on our Facebook page.

Oh, That Face!!!

I have been waiting for just the right products to scrapbook this photo of my dog Bauer!  Our Hello There June Kit was perfect to document this adorable photo.

I wanted to use lot of colors on my white background to make make the photo stand out.  I love how the strips of paper create a solid yet colorful background.

Using some pop dots I created a cluster of embellishments and then added the adorable speech bubble to the top.

Our Hello There June Kit makes it so easy to create a fabulous layout!

Be Real, by Diana.

Well hello!  Today I am sharing a page I created using some of my Instagram pictures and this month’s Kit.  I have to say I REALLY enjoy Instagram–(no invites to silly games just pictures!)  I really like that you can mix photos from your phone and camera in the app AND that you can play with their filters to get JUST the right look.  But I think my favorite part of Instagram is that it is a QUICK look into your life through pictures.DianaWlenslove

For this layout I took the picture with my phone as it was a picture of my camera!  This picture was taken Christmas morning, I was seriously SO beside myself, I had been wanting this lens for a long time and asked Santa the year before–he said, “No.”  So I decided to be a good girl and ask again this past Christmas and lo and behold!  (on a side note this lens has performed like a DREAM–making shooting “under the lights” doable!)

What you may not notice but is important for me, is that in the background you can see my NEW PJ’s and my youngest son’s new addition to his orange obsession–seriously the kid LOVES orange!  I used that orange as inspiration and dropped some orange mist on my page–there was so much that I dabbed my sponge brush in the center and then painted the edge of my page with it– sort of blends in with the paper a bit.

We would LOVE for you to share your Instagram photography in your layouts and spreads–please feel free to share them to our Facebook page!

Challenge #77: Hot Stuff

Where I live, the temps are toasty and summer is in full swing. When the June kit, Hello There, arrived on my doorstep, it was a perfect match for the season. I was especially drawn to this patterned paper by Basic Grey:

Inspired by these warm colors and the warm days of summer, our next challenge is to use a warm color palette on your next layout. There is plenty to work with from Hello There, and I asked creative team member Jenni to share her take on the challenge using the kit:

Not only did Jenni use the Basic Grey paper, but she also watercolored other elements in warm colors and pulled orange, yellow and deep pink from the kit. I love how she balanced it with neutral wood tones.
