The Keeping of Memories

Hi everyone!  It’s Jenni here to share my layout showing love and respect for the Crate Paper slide frames included in the We Are Here Add-On for the August Let’s Go on an Adventure Kit!  These have been really popular, understandably, but I have a special reason to be drawn to these embellishments.  My Dad was an avid camera collector and photographer…and by avid, I mean obsessive.  After his sudden death, my Mother & I sifted through his cameras and found so many that still had film in them!  It was like a treasure hunt!  Ironically, most of the photos were of his hobby itself, or of little bits and pieces.  This was one of those photos!

The first thing I thought about after seeing the chipboard slides from Crate Paper was hanging out in my Dad’s darkroom!  I loved that the letter alphas were clear too, so they let the light thru, much like a negative slide would!  I immediately thought of hanging the negatives on a clothes line to dry after developing…I can still smell the chemicals!

Even though that memory of smelling chemicals may be worrisome, it instilled in me the driving need to record my family.  I may not do it the traditional way, or the way my Father would have done it, but I know he would have approved.

I added some other fun things included in the August kit to my “drying negatives” like some of the wood veneers and die cuts from Basic Grey, Crate Paper and October Afternoon.  The papers were perfect to go with the wood cabinet in the photo.  I also used some Distress Ink on the edges of the cardstock to tie in the other colors and keep the retro vibe I was going for!CLICK_SBC_Aug 2013

  • It is sad to hear the passing of your father. I can see that those photographs produced by him really turned into a creative output. Do you add other stuff not related to his belongings? Or you just compile it and put together? It was really a good tribute. 🙂
