September Guest Designer – Emily Spahn
Let’s get to know this month’s guest designer, Emily!
Hi! I’m Emily Spahn. I am a mom, a wife, a music-teacher, a wannabe photographer, and, of course, a scrapbooker! I live in Illinois, but I’m a Wisconsin girl at heart! 🙂 I spend my days teaching general music to elementary students and my evenings with my two cool kiddos Mirielle (3.5) and Henry (1.5) and my husband Justin.
I started scrapbooking in about fifth grade, when I made my first meticulously crafted page using white typing paper and a hand-drawn crayon title. It was spectacular. I’ve been hooked every since! I started to scrap more seriously about five years ago. Since then I’ve been lucky enough to have been on a number of design teams and to have been published in many scrapbooking magazines. My favorite products include patterned paper, alphabet stickers, and maybe a punch or two. In fact, I’m pretty sure I could get rid of everything else in my scrap space and create with just those three items! My style is simple and fun with a focus on the little details.
When I’m not scrapping…or teaching…or parenting…I enjoy writing, reading, music, and photography. Feel free to check out my blog at http://justem.typepad.com. Thanks to Lisa for this great experience!
We asked Emily a few Qs, here are her answers. While you browse her answers, enjoy some of the layouts she made using the Talk of the Town kit.
What did you like best about the September kit? I loved all the Amy Tangerine goodies, especially all the little die cuts. There so many cute little elements. My favorite one (and the one I used first) was the little heart. I wish I had another pack!!
Where do you do your crafting? I have a scrap “space” in the unfinished side of my basement. It’s not very glamorous, but it works! Now that I have two young children, I find myself doing a lot more scrapbooking outside the house. I try to go to Archivers once a month so that I can get everything accomplished that I need to!
Who/What is your favorite person/thing to document in your layouts? I love documenting all the “little things” in life. I am not really an event scrapper or a chronological scrapper. The vast majority of my layouts feature photos and stories that are very ordinary everyday things. I love taking pictures and I’m constantly chasing my kids around with the camera!!
What do you like to do best when you aren’t scrapbooking? I love spending time with my family. I know that probably sounds like a very generic answer, but after having the summer off with my two kids, I am really missing them now that I’m back at school everyday!
Thank you, Emily, for sharing your work with us this month! We love having you with us!
