having fun with elements

Happy Friday everyone!!!! LG here sharing another layout with you using the Hello Sunshine kit.

The fun thing about this month’s kit is the different elements you can have fun with from the patterned papers and embellishments. For my layout, I took advantage of the bubble quote and the patterns from the papers. With a little imagination, you can create simple and very unique layouts.

Weekend Warm-up: Journaling Card Mini

I love journaling cards and the April kit came with a whole delightful sheet of them.  Instead of breaking them apart and using them on various layouts, I decided to create a little mini album with the cards as my pages:

I chose to back each card with cardstock, but you could easily skip that step.  I rounded the corners because I find with mini albums that round corners tend to last longer.  I used a little bit of washi tape to accent each page and secured them together with a simple metal ring.

I used photos that I had on hand – extras from previous layouts or accidental duplicates.  This project was a great way to put those wallet-sized photos to good use.

I plan to keep this mini in my purse pocket so that in the grocery store lines or doctor’s office I will have a fun little book to entertain the boys with.  Plus, it makes a cute brag book :).

So if you’re scrapping this weekend, and you have journaling cards to spare, consider a quick mini.  Do you have other creative ideas for journaling cards?  I’d love to hear them :).  Have a great day!

Not just for Short Stories

I am a fan of bright colours on my pages, and the Bella Blvd. Sophisticates “Short Stories” paper – is all that and more! One the backside the page in the kit is a set of journalling cards.. I couldn’t resist the urge to chop it up and use a ton of the cards on this page!

I trimmed down a few of the cards, and stitched them on my page – and love the result!

I also used one of the journalling cards to make the fringe/grass along the bottom of the Crate Paper fence! I just slit it a bunch of times with my scissors — sewed it onto the page and then curled it with a pencil!

Have fun with your kit – and use those journalling cards for more than just your journalling!

One Item Wonder: File Folder

One of my favorite parts of the Hello Sunshine kit is the kraft file folder.  If you’ve browsed the design team idea gallery this month, you’ll find many fun and fabulous ways to use yours.  Today, I’d like to share how Lady Grace and Nicole put their file folders to good creative use.

Lady Grace used her file folder as a foundation for patterned paper and a photo.  I wonder if there’ s hidden journaling on the inside?

Nicole used her file folder as the basis for a mini album.  What a fun collection of photos and papers!

If you haven’t had a chance to use your file folder yet, browse the idea gallery or take Lady Grace and Nicole’s inspiration to task.  Personally, I’m thinking of a Mother’s Day card.  Have a wonderful day!

Lifting You – Debbie

Hello, everyone. Hope your weekend was a fabulous one. We are here with another Lifting You for today. And we are lifting DEBBIE! Debbie shared this gorgeous page using her Scrapbook Circle kit on the Facebook fan page.

I loved this page immediately when I saw it. Perfect little accents and great layering of the pattern papers. And the focal point for the main image is fabulous.

Debbie was lifted by Diane and LG. Here is Diane’s lift.

And here is what LG made.

Both ladies made fabulous pages. Both kept the same blocked-off layout. And both ladies used a journal-spot-like area for their title, just like Debbie did. Gotta love all 3 of these pages! Great work, ladies!

You can be one of future Lifting You features! Remember to share your work using your Scrapbook Circle kits on Facebook. Thanks for stopping by the blog today.

Folders and Hidden Journaling

Sometimes you want to journal about something personal and hide the journaling from every day view. Other times you simply run out of space or don’t want the design to include journaling even if you do have a few things to say. For me, this layout included the latter. I wanted to jot down a few notes about the photo, including the names of the people in the photo, but I didnt want to include a journaling block in the design of the layout. So, I chose the hide the journaling on the inside of the cool file folder included in the Hello, Sunshine! kit.

I got to do everything I wanted design-wise and still write down my memories. I think I may need some more of those folders!!

Something Unique

Lately I have been seeing a lot of layouts online using mists and stamps together. The uniqueness it brings on a layout is so beautiful that I decided to combine both techniques on my pages recently. The process is very easy and fun to do. There is no limit to your creativeness. Combine several colors, use multiple stamps, apply different techniques, the possibilities is endless.

Here are two layouts that I made using both techniques on my page:

Hello Sunshine Layout

Vintage Market Layout:

So grab those unused stamps and have fun! Combine it with those colorful mists and you can create a project that is unique!

Winner and Challenge #6

I loved looking through your entries this week – the layouts and coordinating cards were all fantastic!   Thank you for your participation!  Our randomly chosen winner is…

CHAS SIMMONS

…with this pretty layout and matching card:

Congratulations, Chas!  Email me at tessabuys (at) yahoo (dot) com and I will get you set up with your prize.

Ready for a new challenge?  As I looked over the April Kit, Hello Sunshine, I couldn’t help but notice the trendy banners.  They are such a fun element to add to your pages and they come in dozens of styles and shapes.  So,  challenge #6 is to use a banner in a layout.  Here’s my take:

I used banner stickers from the Crate Paper sticker sheet in the April kit, as well as a banner from the April printable (under the photo).  I had a little fun journaling along the banners.

And speaking of banners, check out this awesome prize – Pink Paislee Soiree stamps!

To play along, create your banner-ific layout and link us to your page in the comments section of this post.  You can post your entry on your blog, in a gallery, or on our Facebook page.  Just be sure to leave a comment so we can admire your work :).  Entries are due by Wednesday evening, May 4th.

Have fun scrapping!

In the Easter Spirit

Are you getting in the Easter spirit yet?  It’s so hard to believe that Easter is just a few days away and we haven’t even taken the kids to see the Easter Bunny yet.

I chose my inspiration for this layout immediately when I saw the Crate Paper Neighborhood collection chipboard, specifically the Easter Egg Banner.  I didn’t know what I was going to scrap but I knew that banner would be the starting point.

Do you ever base the whole theme of your layout on one little element? There was so much to choose from in the Hello Sunshine kit but that one just jumped out at me and I “saved” it. Everything just fell into place so quickly with this layout, giving me more time to prepare for this weekend’s festivities (and make that trip to visit the Easter bunny).

I know it’s only Hump Day Wednesday but I hope you are looking forward to a nice long weekend and can squeeze in some time to get crafty!
