tip of the day…..

using cardboard in your albums and pages have become very popular. I thought I would give it a try with my December Daily album. For my album I used the FANTASTIC December kit. It’s so easy to work with and it’s Jam Packed with FUN paper and embellishments!
For my cardboard I measured the piece I needed, mine happens to be 8 x 8 in size.

Once it was measured I started to peel off the cardboard. I then painted the edges. I left some on the page so I could attach either a picture or journaling later. Underneath my pattern paper I also left some paper so that it would have something to “hold on to”. I love the effect and it was simple! Enjoy!

Off-centered embellishments

I am loving this December kit! I had so much fun with all the great embellishments that it comes with. In this layout, I clustered all my photos/paper/journaling/embellishments on one side. Then, almost as an afterthought, I took three little circle and placed them in the opposite corner. I like the look. Your eye isn’t quite expecting to see those three circles apart from everything else.

So, when you are scrapping away this month, try putting some embellishments off-center and away from everything else! I hope you’ll enjoy it!

December Sneak Peek!

Here’s just a tiny bit of what you have to look forward to in the December kit! Lots of Christmas stuff, but also things that don’t have to be used for holiday layouts.

Everything here is from the December kit, except for the letters that are from my stash. Trust me, you’ll love the letters that come in the kit, but they simply did not fit on this layout. I am using them everywhere else, however! :)

Don’t forget to check out our idea gallery on December 1st for more inspiration for the December kit!

tip of the day…..

Arrows seems to be in the “thing” right now in scrapbook layouts.

Here are a couple of different ways to use arrows.

1. Point out the details. For this layout I wanted to point out the “thing” that my boys were looking at

2. Go big and use for journaling.

I would love to see what you come up with!

Making Your Layout Cohesive

When I was working on this layout, I really struggled. There were so many aspects — the photos, the money, the ticket stub, an ice cream spoon, and journaling cards that I all wanted to be a part of it. It was really busy looking and didn’t feel like it went together.

So, I decided to group everything, layering most of it, and then outline it twice around everything. I took my zig marker and went around everything once with the thick side. Then, after that I went around it again with the thin side.

I ended up really liking the way it all looks cohesive. So, the next time you are struggling with making your layout look cohesive, grab a pen and outline it all a time or two!

A twist on journaling…

Do you ever feel like you get into a rut with the journaling on your layouts? I believe that a layout isn’t complete without journaling, but sometimes find myself not quite knowing what to say. I also feel that it is important to journal in your own handwriting…for me, it just feels more personal.

A few ways to “spice” up your journaling:

1) Mix up your own handwriting with stamps or alpha stickers (love using a date stamp & the Making Memories tiny alpha for this!)

2) I almost always write my journaling in the “1st person”. Try a different approach; in the layout below the journaling is written as if our kitty wrote it :o)

3) Print your journaling from the computer or use a typewriter, just have some fun!

The layout I am sharing today features our kitty, KitKat. I created the layout using a fabulous PageMap…love those sketches and the November kit, Radiant Harvest.

GIRL kitty:

and a close up of the Crate Paper Season Collection birdie rubon and the wonderful Jillibean Soup Corrugated Kraft alphas…

Here’s are a few closeups of the journaling on my layout. For fun, I decided to write the journaling as if KitKat was sending our family a MEMO and mixed my own handwriting, date stamp & tiny alpha stickers:

Love all of the journaling spots & stickers included in the November kit!

Another closeup showing off the adorable Crate Paper Season Collection rubons and border stickers & the Basic Grey Opalines-Half Pearls in blue…just gorgeous!

So, give your journaling a twist…I think it will surprise you what you can come up with!

Thanks for stopping by! Take care!

Using Colour and Black and White Photos Together

I love these two pictures of my daughter Kira, but could not choose between the two. I decided to use both, keeping one in colour and turning the other one to black and white. I find it gives the layout a cool look!

Mixing colour and black and white pictures together is great to show off many photos while keeping the focus on a favourite shot.
All supplies are from the gorgeous November kit, Radiant Harvest.
